Facts:
The facts to be laid out concern the “grand finale” dubbed by the promoters. This judgment centers around three timelines of the event simply the a) beginning , b) middle and c) end. I need not comment on liquor as you all should know how bacchanal mixes their drinks from previous opening nights. Having missed some of the beginning I can just comment on the time from arrival (around 11:15) . The sponsors gave patrons a nice wrist band on entry that illuminated (that was a nice addition). Patrons received either a white, red, pink or green illuminated bands. Some persons also received Digicel rags. From here onward the judgment will only focus on one main thing , the reason why we all came, THE MUSIC (and DESTRA’S GOOD BODY!!).
A) Beginning: After arriving the selectors did somewhat of an ok job at keeping the crowd livel, playing mostly 2014 songs with did not repeat much. Surprisingly Kurt Riley made an early cameo and did a pretty decent job so I will give the beginning a solid B with the music and the fandangles that was given out.
B) Middle: This was indeed the CLIMAX of the party, after miss Kitty did a bag of chatting and there was a phone giveaway (s5 from Digicel) we were all waiting with bated breath for the main attraction of the night. DESTRA GARCIA (my wife to be lol). Her performance was excellent, as usual she had songs from present and yesteryear with a mix of varying paces, “nuff jump up and some slow wine”. All in all she performed for in excess of an hour so if you came to see Destra believe me, you were not disappointed! Plus her attire (black see-through suit) was worth the money and there were many “batty shakes” and the occasional climbing on the stage equipment, even dancing with a fan and the Rolly Polly segment with a cameo from Miss Kitty. All in all the middle or climax gets a A+. Definitely worth the money!
C) End: Here is where I will curse all bad-words and flip every damn thing. After such a wonderful middle segment of the party we the patrons were on a high. Along came Polly in the form of DJ Smoke, Kurt Riley and another who in my view murdered the vybz like a certain artiste did to a certain “lizard” . Ok to be fair, Bambino came on right after the Destra performance and played a decent set mixing old songs with the new and even added some “crowd pleasers” like Harlem Shake etc. But as mentioned before, Smoke, Kurt and company did a horrible job keeping the vibes. They repeated songs like crazy and just could not even sustain a proper power segment. The party ended on a low note reminding me that after all it is just bacchanal Fridays and now, even more than ever I became hard to please as a Soca Rep.”We party hard and expect good things”. End gets a C- from me. Harsh but earned.
Conclusion: Beginning and middle portions were great but the end left much to be desired. Closing Night gets a B grade overall. Please bacchanal just get the DJs right! I am looking forward to beach jouvert. See you all there!
